Speaker Biographies

Tom King, President, National Grid US
 
Tom King was appointed to the Board as Executive Director in August 2007 with responsibility for Electricity Distribution & Generation operations.
Tom was President of PG&E Corporation and Chairman and CEO of Pacific Gas and Electric Company from 2003 to 2007. Before that, he served as Senior Vice President of PG&E Corporation, and as President of PG&E National Energy Group having joined PG&E Gas Transmission as President in 1998.

Prior to PG&E, he served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners and served for nine years in officer positions in Enron’s inter-state pipeline businesses.

David Nissen, Energy Policy, Columbia University
 
Nissen's publications include numerous articles in Econometrica, Review of Economic Studies, Management Science, and various energy journals. Nissen's recent publications include "LNG: An Increasing Project Financing Role in a Growing Business" in International Project Finance Annual (2002).
Nissen holds a BS from the California Institute of Technology, as well as an MA in Statistics and a PhD in Economics, both from the University of California at Berkeley. For 12 years prior to joining SIPA, Nissen managed the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and the gas strategic consulting practice at Poten and Partners, Inc., a leading commercial and energy consulting firm. He has held senior positions with Exxon's Corporate Planning Department and Chase Manhattan's Corporate Lending Group. Nissen also served in the U.S. Federal Energy Administration (precursor to the Department of Energy) during the Carter Administration, where he directed the quantitative assessment of the Carter Administration's National Energy Plan. Professor Nissen has held faculty positions at the Rutgers School of Business and the Rice University Department of Economics.

John D'Agostino, CEO, Dagger Consulting LLC
 
Dubbed “Johnny of Arabia” by the Wall Street Journal, John D’Agostino graduated from the Harvard Business School and within 3 years became the youngest vice president in the history of the New York Mercantile Exchange – the world’s largest energy derivatives exchange. There, John spearheaded the Exchange’s breakthrough international partnership: the first ever Middle Eastern based energy exchange, the Dubai Mercantile Exchange (DME).
John is the main character in New York Times best-selling author Ben Mezrich’s book, Rigged: The True Story of an Ivy League Kid Who Changed the World of Oil, which chronicles how this Italian-American from Brooklyn conquered Harvard Business School and helped revolutionize the world of oil and energy trading exchanges.

John has spoken and taught around the world on negotiation, energy, hedge funds, and other business and global economic and political issues. He has appeared on Fox TV’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” CNBC’s “Fast Money,” Bloomberg Television, and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and numerous other financial and non-financial media. He has also written case studies used by Harvard University and has been a guest lecturer for INSEAD University.

John attended Williams College, Oxford University, and Harvard Business School. He lives in New York City.

Christopher Martin, Reporter, Bloomberg (Moderator)
 
Christopher Martin has over 15 years of experience in media, and is currently holding Reporter position at Bloomberg News. Martin researches, interviews and writes about energy companies, markets and policies. He covered California's energy crisis in 2000-2001, writes about utility deregulation, emerging energy technologies and environmental regulation.

Prior to his tenure at Bloomberg, Martin volunteered at US Peace Corps for almost 2 years. He holds a BS in Business and Economics from Lehigh University.
